Size: when compared to a dSLR the NEX is tiny and when it comes to cameras smaller is usually better in terms of daily use and especially travel.
Image quality: compared to most point & shoots the NEX is larger but trumps ALL p&s cameras in image quality.
Lens options: The NEX allows the use of most any lens (with the right adaptor). Old manual focus lens can be found very cheaply on eBay or other used camera outlets.
